What are the cultural values of citizens of the USA when it comes to a Legislator publically questioning the President during a speech?

A Very Short Article on the Debate

After watching the 90 minutes of the sinking of the SS McCain, er, I mean the debate, what I take away happened not during the sparring, but after. Why did McCain turn his back on Obama and not shake his hand? That, to me, is disrespectful and sums up McCain perfectly.
