This is my entry for Scott's Random Words Writing Challenge:
The elderly man lying in front of me sucked on his oxygen and then pulled the mask aside as his eyes turned in my direction.

The other day Scott posted another one of his random word assignments on Newsvine. When I saw the challenge I thought what a splendid job he had done.

I was a teen in the late sixties. So many song and movies of that era lauded 'freedom.' I remember thinking even then that I had never been free. I carry the chains within me always. Some are lovingly bound around my heart such as those linking me to my family.

I've watched the development of a lake in my parent's neighborhood over the last year or so. It's been an interesting process. It started as a peaceful, lightly wooded field. Then one day, in came the tree cutters and bulldozers and took all the trees and brush out.

It's been years since I was an on the police force. Three years ago I retired and joined a friend's business. Well, more than a friend actually, he trained me when I first joined the force. We were partners for ten years when he retired.

6. Clay's Quilt by Silas House (audio book review)
I really enjoyed this book about a young boy growing up in a Kentucky town in the foothills of the Appalachia Mountains. Clay Sizemore is "raised" by his Aunt Easter when his mother and Easter's beloved sister is killed.

Passing as a Texan is not just a matter of putting on cowboy boots and big hat. No, that will never do if you want people to think you were born and bred there. Dig a little deeper, play it a little more subtly at times, and you too can
blend in with the natives.

This article may be helpful. I found it by entering "ignore author" in the search at the top of the page. The search was set on "text".

Well it's all over now but the telling of the tale's. Scott (Scoop) Butki has flown the coop with his ducks in tow.

Scoop is obviously having a hard time after lunch at Dairy Queen, so he posed the following options for the above question:
Options would be: Twitter, Facebook, 'Vine or MySpace?

4. A Spot of Bother

Savoring every moment….

Many of us tell ourselves that we will have plenty of time to write our memoirs or autobiography once we retire. Then we will have plenty of time, we think. I think even my own dad thought he would write down something about his war experiences during retirement.
Would You Believe, Pasi Interviews Scott?Source: Kirnu
This is a really brief interview but it is so rare for the elusive Mr. Pasi to sit down to interview anyone. And it is also equally rare for the peripatetic (make that hyperactive) Mr. Butki (aka Scoop) to sit or stand still long enough to be interviewed.

I met Scott in person at the DC Vinemeet earlier this year. He lives only about a half-hour away from me, so today, we met at the Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV, for lunch.

Scott Butki is a gifted Newsvine columnist, distinguished by his fine grasp of and mastery our craft.
He weaves his words together wonderfully.
He cares about words and writers and writes here.

As you may be aware I lost my dear husband 18 months ago. But (Scoop) has ask for Valentine's articles and I was so tempted. It may be a tad soon to attempt this and if upon completion I don't feel like I put it down properly I just won't publish it.

I was writing a response to a question from Phaedrus, one of my good Newsvine friends, on another thread today. My response had to do with how to avoid getting too angry at ideological foes during our online debates.

I regularly read Scott's contributions and today i went to his page to find a new Scott. He did some 'work' on his pic which, according to me, looks great. Red hair, a cool beard - he looks more like a cool college guy.

The Stranger blew into town like the stench of old man's Aqua Velva. He rode a dusty flatulent capybara by the name of Sluggo and sported twin Colts, kept loaded and cocked in an A-Team lunchbox at his side. He stood tall...six feet of rusty nails, poodle fangs and bad attitude.
