What climate news you aren't seeing in the American press but can in Iran
Source: wattsupwiththat.com

It's really rather sad that you can read about Svensmark's climate research in an Iranian news outlet (FARS) but you won't see any mention of it in American press, such as in the NYT. A search for Svensmark (and also cosmic rays) yields nothing.

Solar Cycle, Stratosphere and Ocean Work in sync to Generate Global Weather Patterns | International Space Fellowship
Source: spacefellowship.com

Subtle connections among the 11-year-solar cycle, the stratosphere and the tropical Pacific Ocean work in sync to generate periodic weather patterns that affect much of the globe, according to research results appearing this week in the journal Science. The findings will help sc …

What time frame do you work to? For workers, it's quite likely to be the next pay or salary cheque. Many seniors look either to the next dividend payment or the grandchildren's visit.

Solar update: Heading towards sunspot blank days record for 21st Century
Source: Examiner

The sunspot-free string will be 44 days as of August 24...only 8 days from tying the sunspot-free consecutive day record during what has already been the most drawn-out solar minimum for just about all humans living on Earth (since 1913). So the sun seems to be entrenched in its …

Are Sunspots Different During this Solar Minimum?
Source: EOS Journal

An interesting paper about why the sunspots have been decreasing in apparent strength over the last couple of decades. Will this have an effect on climate? Only time will tell.

In other news, scientists finally admit that they don't have a clue about sunspots and solar weather:

New Solar Cycle Prediction

The NASA prediction is still too high here according to Leif Svalgaard and other solar physicists who predicted this deep minimum. Here is a little jewel that will put some into a tizzy.

'Quiet Sun' baffling astronomers

It is baffling some astronomers, others predicted this years ago.

Washington Times - BELLAMY/DUCHAMP: World is getting colder

"To anyone analyzing this data with common sense, it is obvious that factors other than CO2 emissions are ruling the climate."

Astronauts threatened by cosmic rays as sun becomes less active
Source: the Mail online

The growing realization that the sun is probably entering a less active phase is starting to result in studies showing what these effects are going to be.

Solar activity was very low. No flare activity occurred. The visible disk was spotless. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be very low. The geomagnetic field was quiet IIB.

Breathing cycles in Earth's upper atmosphere tied to solar wind disturbances

An interesting piece on how sunspots and coronal holes effect the Earth's upper atmosphere.

Sunspot-hurricane link proposed
Source: News at Nature

A new study suggests that more sunspots mean less intense hurricanes on Earth. But many hurricane experts are cool on the idea.

Sun Goes Longer Than Normal Without Producing Sunspots

A pretty good article about how we are now in a slightly extended period of reduced sunspots. A good read.

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | 'No Sun link' to climate change
Source: BBC News

This recent research shows there is no direct link to solar activity when it comes to global warming. The solar link had been provided by Dr. Svensmark, who defies any wrong-doing by human through carbon emission. Well, again a plus point to traditional global warming theory.

Sunspots Erupt Suddenly
Source: Space.com

A good little blurb on a recent eruption of sunspots of the old cycle 23 on the sun. It looks like cycle 24 still has not arrived in any real way. This has implications for global warming.

Will we actually need more CO2 in the atmosphere? Does a decrease in Solar activity mean global cooling?

If so, then throw away your Prius and get that deposit down for the Chevy Suburban or that luscious new Corvette ZR-1: we need CO2 people, we need lots of it and we need it fast! Don't be shy, rev to the red at the stopsigns, turn up your aircon full blast, lobby for a new coal f …

Humans have made the skies more moist
Source: News at Nature

Human activity is behind the rising levels of water vapour in the lower atmosphere over the past few decades, climatologists have concluded. The rises in humidity could affect patterns of extreme storms, they warn. [...]

Channel 4's Problem with Science

The problem with "The Great Global Warming Swindle", which caused a sensation when it was broadcast on Channel 4 last week, is that to make its case it relies not on future visionaries, but on people whose findings have already been proved wrong.

SUV's on Jupiter: Is Global Warming being caused by increased solar activity rather than human activity?
Source: Alex Jones' Prison Planet.com

Whilst Global warming is now largely accepted, the cause of it may not be that clear cut. An interesting article that indicates that the sun itself may be causing unusual weather patterns on other planets in the solar system.
