BAA told to end UK monopoly by selling Gatwick and Stansted

Airports operator BAA is likely to have to sell off at least two of its three London airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. This was the finding of a Competition Commission report out today.

Airports operator, BAA, has angered airlines by announcing a more than 10% rise in profits from Heathrow last year despite numerous reports of bad customer service, long security queues and poor infrastructure.

BAA plans second runway at Stansted

BAA released plans to build a second runway at London's Stansted airport. The second runway would cost approximately £2.5 billion to build and be completed by 2015. By 2030 it is expected to carry more than 68 million passengers a year.

Third runway planned at Heathrow

The Government has published proposals to build a third runway at Heathrow, indicating that it may scrap earlier plans to make Stansted the first UK airport to gain an additional runway.

Easyjet rejects plans to remove price caps
