Wow, I got a 48% income tax drop!

I guess President Obama's tax relief came as an unexpected surprise this month. Look, guys and gals, I don't make much more than 30K a year. This was a nice surprise, even if it is a little slow; Obama is doing more in his term than Bush ever did in two terms.

He does have some things going for him, of course: his rhetorical skill, his unflappability and not least of all a financial crisis that reflects badly on the party occupying the White House.

Bail out trickle down effect

We haven't seen a fraction of the damage as a result of this financial fiasco. Look at it from the bottom. The local infrastructure may actually come apart at the seams. I'm talking about the lowest levels of government.

House Democrats and the White House have reached an agreement on an economic stimulus plan. Unfortunately, the plan — which essentially consists of nothing but tax cuts and gives most of those tax cuts to people in fairly good financial shape — looks like a lemon.

It is a fair bet that the few members of Science|Business community don't know if their company does any R&D. But a third of the people surveyed by Deloitte gave this as one reason for not claiming R&D tax relief.
