The plane crash took three lives on Wisteria Lane, including that of Karl, Julie's father, Susan's ex-husband and Bree's lover. Susan imagines what her life would have been like had she given her cheating ex another chance, and her fantasy involves a frustrated and sad version of herself gaining weight and coming on to a very uninterested Mike. She then loses the weight, but Karl leaves her anyway, so putting Teri Hatcher in a fat suit (and of course, having her stuff down cookies and cookie dough while wearing badly fitting clothes) seemed weird and just mean.

Before Jay Leno became host of “The Tonight Show,” he once held the title of “the country’s third most frequent flier,” and was given an award by American Airlines for racking up so many miles. Leno shares this anecdote as the airline’s first guest editor of its in-flight magazine, American Way. Part of his duties as guest editor included conducting an interview — Leno interviewed himself — and he seemed to use the platform as a defense of “The Jay Leno Show.”

Katherine continues to head down the path to insanity, but this time, she tried to use Mike and Susan's young son, M.J., as a pawn. First, she fills the young boy's head with her woes and blames his mother. Then, she picks him up from a party without telling his parents. A furious Mike confronts her and ends up spitting out that he never loved her and thought of Susan every time he held or kissed Katherine. When he leaves, Katherine picks up a knife, calls for an ambulance, and then apparently cuts herself offscreen. Viewers hear a gasp and see the bloody knife, but not how serious the injury was. That was kind of a lot of blood on the blade, though.

Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” won the Pulitzer Prize, but it’s likely the voters read it while holding a hand over their eyes and peering through a gap in two fingers. While it is a novel that explores the unwavering bond between a father and son, there are chilling and gruesome aspects that make a beautifully written tale somewhat cringeworthy.

At Thanksgiving, the Chief told Meredith that he doesn't consider himself an alcoholic, she agreed not to tell anyone she'd seen him drinking, and they began to bond. Susan was sentenced to picking up roadside trash for shooting Katherine. But when Katherine drove by to taunt her and dumped her own trash, she, too, was sentenced to the same community service. Katherine later broke down and admitted that she'd lost Mike, but then let it slip that she and Mike were like rabbits when it comes to the bedroom. Of course, that was a challenge to Susan, and Mike was suddenly wondering why his wife was so frisky. She finally explained what Katherine had said, and Mike told her that sex was the only thing he and Katherine had in common, whereas he and Susan were soulmates.

Owen brought a doctor named Teddy Altman (played by Kim Raver of "24") to be Cristina's much-needed cardio attending. Teddy turned out to be an old friend of Owen's from the military. Cristina bristled at Teddy's presence at first, but when Teddy let her do the work on a tricky and fascinating cardio surgery, Cristina unsurprisingly came around. Later, when Owen and Teddy talked, it was clear that while they were platonic friends while he was in a relationship with his former fiancee, Teddy had hoped that might change if he ever became single.
