Two Buck Chuck Still Making Waves

I love living in Northern California! "He says no wine is worth over $10," says Mondavi, whose family's wines include the new I'M line that runs from $13 to $20. "I say, 'Yeah, you're right Fred, unless they're my wines because I've seen you buy 'em."

When asked to supply organic milk for communal use at her flat, a friend bought Safeway's O brand organic milk. Her roommate was displeased, claiming it wasn't really organic. (Many greens question the substance of the USDA certification program.)

Fun at the Market

I am one of the odd folks who enjoy the weekly or so trip to the market to food shop. I attribute this to a love of cooking and food as well as having what has to be the most fun market in the world as my "corner store"--Trader Joe's.

Very entertaining fan video shot on a Treo smartphone while shopping at Trader Joe's.

A Rant About Idiots With Shopping Carts

Aside from the fact that it's Wal-Mart(*), there is a physical setup to Wal-Mart that has always completely pissed me off — the aisles are too damn narrow. This is made worse by a large percentage of their target demographic being, err...

One Clove Per Head Garlic
Source: sundaynitedinner.com

We love garlic and use it in just about every savory dish we make. We also cook in mass quantities and I always dread peeling the garlic. I hate it when my fingers get sticky from the garlic juice and the skins stick to my finger. It's not a difficult task. It's just mundane.

Trader Joe's comes to the Carolinas....and the crowd goes nuts.

Bush's war on Whole Foods
Source: Slate

The U.S. attorney scandal has raised fears that the Bush administration is misusing the levers of government to punish political opponents. Now I think I've uncovered another sinister example of the administration using government lawyers to stick it to liberals.

Trader Joe's, De la crème?
Source: Roots and Grubs

Despite my clever standard shopping list, I forget something every time I go to Trader Joe's. Yesterday it was cream for the gratin dauphinois I'm making tomorrow. This was doubly silly because I was actually looking at the cream section and noticing something funny.

In a Moment of Hypocrisy, Berkeley Says No to Trader Joes
Source: The San Francisco Chronicle

Most communities would be breaking out the Two-Buck Chuck and organic flaxseed chips at news that Trader Joe's is coming to town. Not Berkeley.
