I was a teen in the late sixties. So many song and movies of that era lauded 'freedom.' I remember thinking even then that I had never been free. I carry the chains within me always. Some are lovingly bound around my heart such as those linking me to my family.

This is my Romance/ Valentine's Day submission for 'Writing Down the Bones'.
On the day he died, Lunar still wore the flag, tangled between his legs, tattered and stained from the battle. He wore it with pride, he said, even as he downed that last drink. He wore it as the last bomb took out his family, friends, and me.
Tell me something new. Don't stop talking. Don't pause midsentence and expect me to fill in the blanks. I'm not the historian. My memories are false. I need your words to fill in the spaces. Remind me of what's missing in your life.
The topic will be different but the rules are the same as in the first week. In short, a topic is announced and,upon reading that topic, you are to write for 10 minutes in whatever style you want. You can write poetry, prose, an ode, an essay, whatever.
I confess that I am not myself when placed in the middle of a crowd. Shy, quiet, reserved. I'm the comma in the middle of the sentence. One of many paintings on display at an artist's premiere.
