X-MEN

The Wire

‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ lacks bite

Prequels often present a challenge by virtue of the fact that we know how they’re going to end. The first “X-Men” movie begins with Wolverine/Logan (Hugh Jackman) having forgotten who he is and what has happened to him. So it’s no spoiler that “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” climaxes with its hero … forgetting who he is and what has happened to him.

Wolverine is such a sexy beast

A conflicted antihero, virtually indestructible thanks to a skeleton generously coated in an adamantium metal, is the main attraction in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and the stuff of badass comic book-to-big screen legend. Wolverine fights for the good guys while wrestling his inner demons and making mincemeat of anyone who stands in his way.

Best bets: ‘Wolverine’ claws way into theaters

Ever wonder how X-Men’s Wolverine came to be? has the answers and a whole lot of Hugh Jackman to boot. If you’ve seen that leaked, unfinished version on the Web, you know that Liev Schreiber co-stars as Sabretooth, while other mutants include Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Bolt (Dominic Monaghan) and Gambit (Taylor Kitsch). If this film succeeds, get ready for a whole lot more X-Men origins stories. In fact, “X-Men Origins: Magneto” is already in the works. (Opens May 1)

5Top: W00t! Anticipated sci-fi films of 2009

With a bounty of long-awaited releases on the way, 2009 is shaping up to be a banner year for sci-fi fans. Topping the list of must-see flicks is the upcoming adaptation of Alan Moore’s “.” Those interested in the typical superhero-saves-the-day brand of cape crusaders can give it a pass, but for just about everyone else, this dark story of a fractured band of retired heroes-for-hire holds a lot of promise. And if the trailers for “Watchmen” are any indication, even comic book aficionados can prepare for nearly nitpick-free viewing. Unlike previous attempts to bring Moore’s stories to the big screen (including “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “V for Vendetta”), this one looks like it’s ripped right from the pages of what’s often called “the greatest graphic novel of all time.”

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Review

X-Men Origins is probably the best X-Men out there. I initially was afraid the movie would turn as cheesy as the 3rd movie of the franchise, but it finally ended up much better. The final result gives a movie with great action, great storyline and Wolverine is as cool as ever.
