— Chris "Ludacris" Bridges returns to Law and Order: SVU in the season finale, which is set to air on May 22. He will reprise his role as Darius Parker, an accused murderer who will bring out some skeletons in the cast's closet. Bridges has been in three feature films including "Crash, for which he won Best Ensemble from the Screen Actors Guild Awards. He is also a Grammy Award winning musician, most recently receiving awards for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Ludacris and Law and Order: SVU executive producer Dr. Neal Baer held a press conference that BuddyTV was fortunate to be a part of. The following is a recap of what transpired:
Chris has always been a fan of Law and Order. He finds it interesting because they pull from real life stories and you can try to put things together. Also, people want to know about the courtroom and the criminal system. He got into watching Law and Order: SVU after having seen the original Law and Order on and off over the years after stumbling upon it perhaps while his parents were watching the show. In regards to his episode, there are so many twists and turns that the audience won't be able to predict what will happen. His character will make the audience expect the unexpected.
With so much going on, it was difficult to schedule in the Law and Order: SVU shoot but they had to make the episode happen. Chris wanted to do the role and so he worked it in. Sometimes he is amazed at just how crazy his schedule actually is. He most recently had a small part in a movie called Fred Claus with Vince Vaughn that is coming out November 9th. But a crazy schedule doesn't stop him from wanting to be the next Dick Wolf. He thinks everyone aspires to be as talented and successful as Wolf has become.
Chris focused on the show and not other projects so when asked to comment on the rap controversy he simply said, "there is a time and a place for everything but this call is about Law and Order: SVU right now." He did note, however, that it would be fun to take the Law and Order signature music and sample it into a song...
Dr. Neil Baer was able to give us some hints about the upcoming finale and the future of Law and Order: SVU. He gave a background on Chris's character, who was a part of the show last year where his character was accused of murder and it was discovered that he was the son of Ice-T's ex-wife, causing calamity for Ice's family. They decided to bring this character back because there were procedural problems with illegal evidence during the trial and Dr. Baer wanted Chris's character to confront the detectives. Each detective has certain issues that will be put into the forefront by Chris's character during the finale. One character will have a calamity that leads into next season.
There are so many guest stars on the finale. Steven Weber plays will play Chris's lawyer. Lisa Gay Hamilton will play Chris's mother and Earnest Waddell will play Chris's brother. Star Jones and Nancy Grace will be giving commentary on the whole mess throughout the show. Both were really into it and they will tell us how the case is going throughout the episode.
The show is definitely back next year, as they are already shooting the next season. Dr. Baer noted that they just shot an episode with Melissa Joan Heart. He also hinted that Michael Westin's character will possibly become a recurring character in Mariska Hargitay's life but that he's trouble and "he has problems."
Dr. Baer noted that the May episodes will give you lots of clues about what happens to Christopher Meloni's character and he also confirmed that the whole team is coming back next season.
