— Hell's Kitchen will be back for a new season earlier than previously announced. Monday, June 4 will see the return of foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay as he oversees, yells at, and berates twelve aspiring chefs who are hoping to show him they have what it takes to run their own restaurant.
Fox has not yet announced the identities of this season's contestants. Open casting calls were held in New York, LA, Phoenix, Miami, and Atlanta last fall, with the casting announcements stating that they were searching for applicants who are "passionate about food," with "varying" culinary skills, though prior cooking experience was preferred, of course. "Food lovers, experienced chefs, cooks, fast food and cafeteria workers, private chefs, weekend gourmets, and caterers" were encouraged to apply.
This winter, the show apparently taped a challenge segment featuring five of the Hell's Kitchen contestants cooking at a high school, after which one of the students who ate the meals posted on his website about how the food was and which of the chefs won the challenge, as well as some anecdotes about chef Gordon Ramsay's visit to the school.
Eater LA, a blog that covers the Los Angeles restaurant scene, reported that "Fox got a whiff of this and went after the source like a rabid, flesh-eating tiger." The student has since removed his post, allegedly because Fox threatened him with a lawsuit.
Eater LA also reports that Michael Wray, the first-season winner of Hell's Kitchen, may be a guest judge on the show this season. Wray is currently the "Freestyle Head Chef" at Las Vegas restaurant Tatou, which will probably be seen briefly in the third season of Hell's Kitchen.
Season two winner Heather West is currently a senior chef at the Red Rock Casino resort's Terra Rossa restaurant.
