— "Rupert: Why listen if you can watch?" asks one of the ads recently created for German lingerie maker Blush.
The gentleman being addressed in the saucy image is none other than Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of News Corporation — one of the key players in a recent phone hacking scandal. Rebekah Brooks, a former Chief Executive of News International with involvement in the same mess, is called out in another ad with a lounging model who declares "here's a spicy scoop for you, Rebekah!"
These ads were created by Berlin-based advertising agency Glow and very obviously play off the headlines and drama surrounding the Murdoch media empire and its — now shuttered — News of the World tabloid.
From the "World of Blush World Exclusive" logo, the bold tabloid-style fonts, and the use of photos made to appear as if they were covertly taken through a keyhole — the ads are a clever play on the media drama dubbed "hackgate."
We doubt that Murdoch will be particularly amused when the images start appearing on posters throughout the city of Berlin as well as in print, but he's probably got more pressing concerns than a series of cheeky underwear ads.
